A bridge between regular people and the legal system.
Litigation literacy is a term coined by Jim Winner. It names a simple idea: the people forced into the civil justice system deserve to understand it. Not abstract legal theory, but the practical knowledge of how a real case moves, from the first notice to the last motion.
Just Us Bridge Show was created to make that litigation literacy more accessible, engaging, and human. The show grew out of the Just Us Bridge work in Cook County and the need to reach people who may never attend a formal class, hire a lawyer, or understand what is happening when a case, notice, summons, eviction, motion, or court date appears in their life.
The show uses a mix of education and entertainment. Instead of only presenting lectures, Just Us Bridge Show uses satire, sketches, mock news, desk segments, legal explainers, and practical storytelling to make legal concepts easier to understand and remember. It is built to be watched, shared, clipped, discussed, and used as a bridge into deeper education.
The production is centered on one idea: people cannot protect rights they do not understand.
Production background
Just Us Bridge is connected to a broader litigation literacy mission led by Jim Winner. The related training program has included eviction defense education, civil procedure concepts, quizzes, booklets, participant intake, exit surveys, and community outreach. The show is the media expression of that mission, distinct from the structured training site where courses and tracking live.
Just Us Bridge Show is produced by Professional Litigant, Inc.
How the show is built
Who the show is for
People facing eviction or housing instability. Self represented litigants. Families dealing with court paperwork. Community organizations, reentry programs, students, and civic education programs. Anyone who wants to understand court without becoming a lawyer, and who learns better through video, humor, story, and example.
The host
Jim Winner created the Just Us Bridge litigation literacy mission and hosts the show. From the desk to the courtroom sketches, he translates lawyer language into human language, so the people forced to deal with the legal system are not doing it blind.
Closing Arguments.
A sharp, funny, final word. The host breaks down a legal issue, a public policy problem, a court system failure, a procedural trap, or an everyday legal misunderstanding, and gives the audience the plain language version of what really matters.
It is the part of the show where the facts are laid out, the system is questioned, and legal confusion gets cross examined.
